A rented life. New York-based fashion rental company Rent the Runway (RTR) has partnered with furniture retailer West Elm to offer home textile rentals on its website. Starting this summer, RTR subscribers will be able choose from 26 different bundles of home decor items like pillows, quilts and covers valued between $150 and $450. The bundles will be part of RTR’s subscription plans, RTR Update for the rental of four items and one swap per month, and RTR Unlimited allowing constant rotation of four items per month.


Closing time. As part of its restructuring, AWG has announced (paywall; in German) the closure of 26 of its 290 stores. The German fashion retailer, which filed (in German) for insolvency in self-administration in January, is currently negotiating with the landlords about the premature termination and settlement of rental agreements. Employees’ wages and salaries are secured until the end of April 2019.

Dublin calling. Irish fast fashion retailer Primark is going to move its UK based product teams from Reading to Dublin. Starting this September, the group will consolidate all buying, merchandising, design, quality and sourcing operations at its headquarters. About 220 jobs are affected. The Reading office will remain open with about 270 staff focusing on central merchandising, brand, supply chain and store development. The move follows a like-for-like sales decrease of 2 percent during the six month period ending March 2.


A place to grow. Following a solid fiscal 2018, German fashion brand Hugo Boss plans 5 to 7 percent growth in 2019. The strategy is based on five pillars: eCommerce and physical retail; increases digital capabilities - from product development to sourcing; expansion in China and Japan; personalization; and increased brand awareness through fashion shows and social media. Covering Carine. Over the past four years, one faux fur coat sold more than 17,000 units and made its vendor, MaxMara, over $50 million. The coveted Teddy Bear coat was first shown on the runway in 2014. Shortly thereafter, an image of French fashion editor Carine Roitfeld went viral, bringing the cuddly Carine coat to the attention of millions of fans - and copiers. And the style shows no sign of slowing down. Next fall, we'll get it in bright colors...


22 million visitors. Next week, the new 67,000 m2 shopping area at Hudson Yards will open at the Northern end of New York’s elevated High Line park. Then, developers will find out, if a city that just saw several major department stores shutter, is ready for the influx of 100 new stores - including New York’s first Neiman Marcus branch. Operators expect up to 22 million visitors per year, equaling 60,000 per day. About 40,000 workers will populate the five office towers, so a large consumer group is already built in.

Celebrating women. Online tailor Bonobos, which started as a menswear brand focused on chino pants, has launched its first women’s collection. The five piece offering includes a jumpsuit, two shirt dresses and two shirt styles. To support Women’s History Month in the US, 40 percent of the proceeds will be donated to Promundo, a Brazilian non-profit that helps educate males about gender equality and violence prevention through the end of April.


...what is it good for?! A new wave of military styles, now dubbed warcore or Grunt style - named after the 10-year-old, veteran-owned, patriotic lifestyle brand of the same name, are offering wary consumers the right outfit for what some consider to be an approaching apocalypse.
